This foundational Trauma Informed Care training is essential for all staff in your organization, from the top down. According to SAMHSA’s best practices, every person in the agency should be trained in trauma-informed care. Developed by the Institute of Trauma and Trauma Informed Care at Buffalo University, and recommended by the NYS Office of Addiction Services and Supports, this training is ideal for treatment, prevention, and peer workforces.

- Explain the findings of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study
- Understand how trauma/adversity impacts individuals
- Discuss the relationship between trauma and substance use

Trauma Responsiveness (Intermediate)

Embracing Families (Intermediate)
Hands-On Techniques for Family Inclusion
This hands-on training teaches clinicians how to facilitate family activities that promote collaboration, communication, and support. Participants will engage in “real-play” groups and individual sessions using a 4-week educational outline for families. This prepares them for quick implementation. The training is designed for new patients and interested family members.
Informed by the Celebrating Families curriculum, this training includes new activities using the CRAFT communication model and self-help resources. Clinicians will develop educational groups for inpatient and outpatient services, provide collateral sessions, and enroll family members as primary patients.
Participants will engage in experiential activities, brainstorm best practices, and facilitate educational groups. This increases comfort in working with families and supports ongoing family engagement.
Pre-Requisite: Completion of basic Embracing Families training (offered in Dec 2023 and July 2024) or other comparable family training.
